Persediaan Homestay: Part 1

My parents are building two house units to be commissioned as homestay as an addition to the existing three units, satu unit for myself and another for my sister. Mengikut perancangan, both units akan siap by end of February, sekarang dalam fasa plaster dinding. Each unit has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. 

So, my mum asked us to start planning on the interior. Ohh, we were so excited especially sebab kami suka follow HGTV, tengok rancangan home renovation and make over, so boleh la test taste masing-masing. We went to Win Jin Ceramic Trading Construction, Taman Semarak Fasa 2 Light Industrial Area, Nilai on 2 November 2019 to look at floor and wall tiles. The house builder sources tiles from that particular supplier so its best to choose tiles from wide selections that they offer.

As for me, saya suka warna greyish but my sister prefer beige colour so we based on that colour scheme to choose the tiles. At first, untuk floor tiles ruang tamu dan bilik tidur, we thought to choose 2 ft by 2 ft glazed tiles, jenis yang licin dan berkilat. Tapi bila pikir-pikir balik, glazed tiles memang cantik berkilat tapi quite a hassle to jaga since kalau calar senang nampak dan bila mop, kena pastikan dilap kering sebab nampak kesan tompok-tompak air sangat la comot dan berisiko licin bila basah. Jadinya, we then looked at non-glazed tiles, jenis yang sedikit kesat and warna neutral.

We also look at tiles for kitchen floor, kitchen wall, kitchen backsplash, bathroom floor and bathroom walls. Of course untuk kitchen and bathroom floor kena pilih tiles yang tak licin, that is textured atau kesat. We kind of want a modern feel to the house so DH suggest white subway tiles for bathroom tapi saya rasa it's a bit too modern and too sterile, tak cosy gitu. 

Untuk greyish colour scheme, these were our preliminary choices:

Atas dari kiri: Tiles for kitchen backsplash, kitchen wall and bathroom wall
Bawah dari kiri: Same type of tile for the whole floor except bathroom and bathroom tile

As for beige colour scheme, pilihan awal adalah:

Atas dari kiri: Tiles for bathroom wall, kitchen wall and kitchen backsplash
Bawah dari kiri: Bathroom tile and same type of tile for the whole floor except bathroom 

Untuk kitchen countertop, since the builder akan buatkan concrete top,for durability we are going to use 2 ft by 2 ft tiles countertop, like the photo below:

Ini baru seleksi awal, mungkin ada perubahan based on overall cost. My parents also concern about using 2 ft by 2 ft tiles for the whole house floor sebab pengalaman tiles pop-out di one of the existing homestay unit. Tiles tiba-tiba terangkat dan tak lekat pada sub-floor, bila pijak bunyi macam jalan atas kaca. Untuk mengelakkan masalah di masa depan, we might have to use smaller tiles, 2 ft by 1 ft.
